ONION

Onions (Allium cepa) (Latin ‘cepa’ = onion) are also known as the bulb onion or common onions. They are biennial plants, but are usually grown annually. Modern varieties typically grow to a height of 15 to 45 cm (6 to 18 in). Onions are available in three colour varieties of Yellow or brown onions (red). Characteristics

Uses

Bulbs from the onion family had been used as a food source. Onions are often chopped and used as an ingredient in various hearty warm dishes, and may also be used as a main ingredient in their own right. Since they are vegetables, nutritionists suggest that onions are to be eaten raw to maintain its essential components.
